Huxley: On July 25, 2024, Paws Up Rescue in Cullman, Alabama received an urgent message about a puppy who was just days away from death. When Huxley arrived, no one knew if he would make it through the night. He could barely stand, was completely emaciated, and the infection from his wounds was so severe that his flesh was rotting. The smell of infection filled the air — this puppy had been through unimaginable suffering.
Just a few days later, on July 29th, Huxley went into his foster home, where he began to heal. He spent long, peaceful naps curled up in a big, fluffy bed surrounded by soft blankets. Day by day, Huxley grew stronger — eventually feeling well enough to get into a little mischief, like chewing the trim off the bathroom door!
As his strength returned, Huxley moved to a group foster environment, but his journey was far from over. He soon became sick again — running high fevers, growing lethargic, and losing his appetite. After extensive testing, he was diagnosed with Babesia, a serious tick-borne illness. Thanks to antibiotics, antifungal medications, and unwavering care, Huxley fought back once more.
But Huxley’s challenges didn’t stop there. Despite being vaccinated and around nine months old, he somehow contracted Parvo. It made no sense — but nothing about Huxley’s case ever did. The Paws Up Rescue family rallied together, raising enough funds for the life-saving antibody treatment he needed. Against all odds, Huxley pulled through yet again.
Still, every few weeks, his fevers would return. One episode was so severe that he had surgery to check for a blockage — but nothing was found. For months, it felt like an endless cycle of mystery illness and recovery. The team continued treating his symptoms, hoping his body would one day stabilize.
Finally, on December 28, 2024, Huxley’s original foster family realized they could never let him go — and officially adopted him. His health continued to fluctuate for months, but then something changed. After July 12, 2025, Huxley’s fevers stopped — and for the first time, he truly began to thrive.
Today, Huxley is the heartbeat of his family. He greets every morning with boundless excitement — hooting, yodeling, and zooming around with pure joy. His resilience and love for life remind everyone who meets him that even the most broken souls can heal and shine again.
